A Love Letter to Flowers
When you think about giving flowers on holidays, celebrations, or even “just because,” it is never really about the flowers. It’s how they make us feel. Flowers are so magical because they hold a deep meaning to people.
Flowers have the ability to time stamp a moment in your life: your first date, your wedding day, the day you brought your child into the world, the day you said goodbye to a loved one, the day you accepted a new job, the list goes on. Flowers have a way of transporting us back in time, while also still appreciating the beauty that is in the present moment.
They force us to pause, remember, and just be still. So, when people say, “flowers aren’t a necessity,” I disagree.
Humans need beauty and connection. We need things that remind us that life is meaningful beyond our to-do lists and responsibilities. Flowers may not feed us in the way food does, but they feed our souls. They offer comfort. They spark joy. They help us express what words sometimes can’t.
That is why I love growing flowers for others. When thing get messy and hard on a hot August day, this is the belief that reminds me of my “why”. I see the joy and comfort flowers bring. It is an honor to grow flowers for your “just because” and your special occasions.
It will always amaze me of where it all begins.
From the tiniest seed, a beautiful thing is grown. Something so small, can create a big impact. Every spring when I plant the first seeds, that feeling never gets old.
And that, right there, is my love letter to flowers.
A Note on Valentine’s Day Flowers:
It’s no secret that Valentine’s Day is a big flower holiday. It’s a holiday that Kate and June Blooms kind of skips out on. If you look outside, you know there isn’t a flower in sight unless it’s inside a heated greenhouse. Our first flowers don’t bloom until April (hello tulips!), which would mean all the valentine’s flowers would be imported in from warmer climates like Ecuador and Columbia.
So, to get your hands on flowers from us, you just have to wait a little longer. But I promise it is worth the wait. We have our three-week tulip subscription for a valentine’s day treat or early Mother’s Day gift. Our tulips bloom mid to late April, and they are the color and beauty we need after a long, cold Michigan winter.
